ExxonMobil has been a leader in the energy industry since its beginnings in the 1870s. As one of the world's largest publicly traded energy providers, ExxonMobil develops and applies next-generation technologies to help safely and responsibly meet the world's growing energy needs.
ExxonMobil affiliates in Taiwan are active in LNG business development, lubricants sales/marketing/manufacturing, petrochemicals marketing, and marine fuels marketing. ExxonMobil is one of the earliest international energy companies to support Taiwan’s economic growth.
1950s – Esso, Exxon, and Mobil begin lubricants/chemicals marketing operations in Taiwan.
1960-70s – Began into-plane fueling operations at Taipei Songshan Airport in 1963, and at Taoyuan International Airport in 1979.
1980s – Expanded market presence in Taiwan’s then fast-growing economy
1990s – Became one of the first international energy companies to invest and operate a lubricant plant in Taiwan in 1991
2000 to present – Began providing LNG supplies to Taiwan from ExxonMobil’s equity joint ventures in 2006
ExxonMobil has a proven record of successfully meeting society's evolving demand for energy. With longstanding investments in technology coupled with the ingenuity of our people, we are well positioned to continue to responsibly meet the demands of a more prosperous world. ExxonMobil is committed to helping transform our energy systems and working to reduce emissions in the short-term while also working on advancing innovative solutions for a lower-carbon energy future. The company's nearly 23,000 scientists and engineers are working to advance smart and scalable solutions including new ways to help decarbonize the largest emitting sectors – manufacturing, power generation, and transportation systems. And advancing those solutions will help power the transition to lower-emission energy well into the future.
Today, natural gas impacts lives at an unprecedented scale, generating clean and reliable electricity. It is poised to become the fastest-growing energy source over the next two decades. ExxonMobil leads the industry in the production, distribution and application of LNG around the world. This affordable and abundant energy source is making up a growing portion of our daily energy use and LNG is an important part of delivering cleaner-burning natural gas where it is needed most.
ExxonMobil has more than 30 years of experience in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology and is the first company to capture more than 120 million metric tons of CO2, which is equivalent to eliminating the emissions of more than 25 million cars for one year. CCS technology, one of the critical technologies required to achieve net zero emissions and the climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement, is available for use today. ExxonMobil is advancing plans for multiple new carbon capture and storage opportunities around the world to enable large-scale emissions reductions.
ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions will also leverage ExxonMobil’s significant experience in the production of hydrogen, which, when coupled with CCS, is likely to play a critical role in a lower-carbon energy system.
Society's demand for reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy require action. ExxonMobil supports these ambitions and has unique expertise and technical solutions, developed over decades. From its depth and breadth of operational experience – coupled with a history of progress and innovation, project execution and ability to scale up technology – ExxonMobil is poised to help work toward a lower-carbon future through our programs, partnerships, and advocacy of sound public policies.
