Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science, with a 166-year track record of life-changing inventions. Corning applies its unparalleled expertise in glass science, ceramics science, and optical physics along with its deep manufacturing and engineering capabilities to develop category-defining products that transform industries and enhance people’s lives. Corning succeeds through sustained investment in RD&E, a unique combination of material and process innovation, and deep, trust-based relationships with customers who are global leaders in their industries.
Corning’s capabilities are versatile and synergistic, which allows the company to evolve to meet changing market needs, while also helping our customers capture new opportunities in dynamic industries. Today, Corning’s markets include optical communications, mobile consumer electronics, display technology, automotive, and life sciences vessels. Corning’s industry-leading products include damage-resistant cover glass for mobile devices; precision glass for advanced displays; optical fiber, wireless technologies, and connectivity solutions for state-of-the-art communications networks; trusted products to accelerate drug discovery and delivery; and clean-air technologies for cars and trucks.
Corning’s footprint in Taiwan began in 1971. As the LCD industry grew, Corning developed a strategy of moving its production of LCD glass close to its customers – the panel makers – and founded Corning Display Technologies Taiwan (CDTT). The organization’s registration and initial construction occurred in 2000. Through manufacturing facilities in the Science Parks in Taichung and Tainan, Corning is able to provide a reliable source of high-quality LCD substrates, local supply infrastructure and market-leading technology that meets or even exceeds the demanding requirements of Taiwan’s display makers.
Beyond CDTT, Corning has other business entities in Taiwan, including Corning International Taiwan, Corning Research Center, Taiwan (CRCT) and Corning Advanced Technology Center (CATC). Corning International in Taiwan manages the Corning businesses, including Display Technologies, Specialty Materials, Telecommunications, and Life Sciences. CRCT was established in March 2006 and is located on the campus of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Hsinchu. Its mission is to engage customers and institutions in Taiwan, developing collaborations on innovative solutions to market needs. In 2011, Corning established CATC in Taipei to provide product design and development support for the fast-paced consumer electronics industry. Technical experts are also focused on development of emerging applications where Corning glass technologies can play a critical role.
